Cleone Marie (Cranmer) Carleton, age 88, of Tioga, PA died on Monday, December 6, 2021. She was born on August 5, 1933 in Wellsboro, PA, daughter of the late Darwin and Celia (Howey) Cranmer. She was married to A. Kelsey Carleton for just a few days short of 72 years. Cleone was a part-time employee at CN Bank for 27 years and was also the proprietor of the Small Mall, a collectibles store specializing in dolls and penny candy in Tioga, PA.
Cleone was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tioga for more than fifty years. She taught both Sunday and Bible School classes, organized the annual Mother and Daughter banquet celebrations, served as trustee, sang in the choir and set up the "King's Clothes Closet", a community clothing give-away. She served as President of the Tioga Association of American Baptist Women and sat on the Regional Board of the American Baptist Women of Pennsylvania and Delaware.
Cleone also served her community in multiple ways: she was a member of the Tioga Firemen's Auxiliary, the Tri-Lakes Chamber of Commerce, the Tioga Old Home Day Committee and the Tioga Township Planning Committee. She served on the Tioga Township Board of Elections for more than three decades and was honored for voting in elections for fifty consecutive years.
Cleone loved Christmas and believed that both the young and the old should be remembered with gifts. She was one of three local women who established "Project Santa Claus" which continues to provide Christmas gifts for the residents of the Green Home in Wellsboro, PA. She also founded the "Secret Santa" project which for more than four decades has served the families of Tioga and Lawrenceville, PA.
Cleone was an expert seamstress, making exquisite clothing and draperies. Her granddaughters and many children in the community were the lucky recipients of her special "Daisy Kingdom" dresses. She was also a fabulous baker and gifted many families and companies with her delicious dessert and cookie trays.
She enjoyed traveling, reading, hosting family reunions and scrapbooking. She collected dolls and Dionne quintuplet memorabilia and was a member of the Laurel Doll Club for many years.
Cleone is survived by her husband, A. Kelsey Carleton of Tioga, PA; son, Rodney Carleton of Canton, Ohio; two daughters: Dia Carleton of Tioga, PA and Tracie (Paul Hulbert) of Tioga, PA; brother Darwin "Tink" (Mary) Cranmer of Wellsboro, PA and two sisters: Clair Hair of NV and Paula Kress of Penfield, NY; sister-in-law, Anne Cranmer of FL, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by daughter, Kelsie Kentos, son-in-law, Edward Kentos, brother, Ray Cranmer and brothers-in law: Bryce Hair and Paul Kress.
